Dr Tyrone August visits the Centre for African Literary Studies, 26-28 October 2016. He is working on a biography of Dennis Brutus up to the year 1966 when Brutus went into exile. Brutus was a poet, activist, educationalist and journalist. The Bernth Lindfors and James Currey archival collections at CALS contain valuable original correspondence and interview transcriptions from Brutus’s life and work.

Dr August completed a PhD thesis on the poetry of Brutus at the University of the Western Cape and is now a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of English at Stellenbosch University.
