“Vera Leckie, who is currently based in Johannesburg, visited CALS on 23 January 2013. She met Professor Bernard DeMeyer from French, School of Arts and Mr Louis Geiger from the UKZN Press. Ms Leckie is a translator (French and German into English and vice versa) and has translated two books from French into English. The books by West African authors,  Boubacar Boris Diop, are L’Afrique au-dela du Miroir  (Africa beyond the Mirror) (2007) – a very interesting and well-written compilation of essays and newspaper articles – and Les petits de la guenon (The Monkey and her Children) (or Doomi Golo in wolof (2009)). Both of these translations have been submitted to Ayebia Publishing in the UK and await publication, hopefully this year.”
